JISEAS' Global Fellow Dr. Jafar Suryomenggolo has co-edited a special issue on Indonesian politics in the
International Quarterly of Asian Studies (Vol. 55 No. 2). The special issue includes four articles and a research
note that critically examine the ten years of Jokowi's presidency, one month before he leaves office. At different levels - national, sub-national, and local - the articles analyze how Jokowi's 'new developmentalism' has
worked to exclude and deepen discrimination and inequality, especially among the marginalized. At the same
time, the articles examine how the most vulnerable groups and communities have responded to and resisted
these conditions, positioning them as agents rather than victims.
We believe this important work is the first of its kind in the world to focus exclusively on Jokowi's ten-year era. The new work is made more attractive by its open access.
