The Korea-Japan Conference of Southeast Asian Studies 2024 was held at Pukyong National University, Busan, South Korea, on August 31, 2024. The conference theme was “Searching for Southeast Asian Powers and Wisdom in the Turmoil World.” The JISEAS has played a pivotal role as a secretariat in organizing the conference.
Although it was regrettable that we had the meeting in a hybrid format due to the severe weather conditions preventing the Japanese participants from traveling to Busan, the conference had fruitful outcomes, with excellent presentations and insightful discussions.
This year, we were delighted to see an increased participation of institutions from both countries, including the Japan Society for Southeast Asian Studies (JSSEAS). This growth in participation is a testament to the growing interest and collaboration of the two countries. It brings together senior and junior researchers from both countries, pairing scholars across the countries and generations to promote exchanging ideas, perspectives, and insights within the academic communities.
